Helping you reach your goals

Adee Cazayoux

Known as the "Barbell Gypsy," you can find Adee weightlifting, bobsledding, powerlifting, or competing in the NPGL or the CrossFit open.

In her childhood, Adee struggled with her weight and found herself at 16 years old, 45 lbs overweight and leading an unhealthy and unhappy life. After some encouragement from her mother she decided to make a change. With the help of Natalie Bean-Sole (Nutrition Forever), she gained control of her body and diet and discovered a new passion — nutrition.

More recently, Adee has gained an immense amount of knowledge from working with other nutrition consultants known for creating "macro counting" diets and helping athletes lose fat. Continuously advancing her knowledge, Adee has completed her Precision Nutrition Level 1 and is constantly researching and studying to become better in her field.

As an athlete Adee has studied/trained under many renowned coaches, most notably Aimee Everett, national champion, Travis Mash, world champion powerlifter, and Steve Sandor, Hungarian national champion.

Ivette Goicouria

Ivette's extremely active lifestyle started with studying classical ballet at the age of seven. She continued teaching and dancing semi-professionally for 21 years. After ballet, she studied Flamenco in Spain and came back to the US to dance professionally for eight years. During this time she managed to get her Bachelor of Science and went on to get a Master's degree in Architecture. Within those years she also became a spinning instructor and developed a curiosity for nutrition and weight loss.

Nutrition became more of a focus for her upon finding CrossFit in 2010, where she was introduced to the Zone and Paleo approaches. In trying to become a better CrossFit athlete, she began researching the importance of carbs for fuel and started casually counting macros. CrossFit became a gateway to Olympic lifting. This was an enticing sport, but the aspect of "making weight" brought back many bad memories of "trying to be skinny" as a classical ballerina.

Team WAG helped Ivette fine tune her macro counting so that "making weight" became a thing of the past. The concept of "living at weight" allowed her to focus on PRing, rather than cutting.

Ivette is currently focusing her training towards getting on the podium at the 2016 Pan American Masters and World Masters Championships.

Hilary Askew

Having worked in the wellness industry for over 8 years, Hilary has always had a passion for fitness and nutrition. Whether it is nutrition coaching or coaching 4 year olds to play soccer, Hilary loves bringing her passion of sports, nutrition, and overall wellness to others. She is continuously researching, learning, and advancing her nutrition and coaching knowledge to help people efficiently achieve their goals.

Hilary has always been involved in sports and fitness in one way or another since starting soccer at the age of 4. More recently she found a love for CrossFit after joining a local gym in 2014 while 4 months pregnant with her second daughter. It is not only the CrossFit training and philosophy which Hilary is impassioned with, she is also in love with the camaraderie and community approach instilled by this community. Outside of the gym, you will find Hilary in the kitchen making green smoothies and nutritious food for her daughters, at the lake paddle boarding, or hiking with her family.

As a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Hilary knows the ins and outs of nutrition; however, Hilary knew she needed someone to keep her accountable in order to reach her goals. To help her reclaim her body after two back-to-back pregnancies and breast-feeding for two years combined, she joined Working Against Gravity. With the help of her coach, she has never felt better and has fallen in love with the WAG community.

Hilary lives in Ontario, Canada with her husband, 2 daughters and their rescue pup, Tucker.

Melanie Barnshaw

Growing up in Australia, Mel has spent the majority of her life playing sports and embracing the great outdoors. Throughout school, Mel's primary focuses were swimming and athletics until she found CrossFit in 2010 and instantly became addicted to the variety and community associated with it.

Shortly after moving to Canada, Mel started a new weightlifting program written by Coach Hayden and decided to try WAG alongside the program. What started as an experiment soon became a new passion in her life. Along with her newfound freedom with food, the positive effects eating the correct macro ratio had on her body composition and performance in the gym is what hooked her.

Mel finds it hard to sit still, has a constant thirst for exercise and strives to help others become the best versions of themselves.

As a long time client of WAG, he has experienced an amazing transformation. Chris' training focus is in Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting with a 6-year background in CrossFit and has been a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer since 2014.

Ali Carey

If you had told “high school Ali” that she would be where she is today she never would have believed you. Her passion for fitness and nutrition didn’t come until halfway through her college career at University of Vermont when she was (literally) dragged into a CrossFit box. Here, coaches transformed the way she thought about body image and strength. She no longer worked out on a machine, she was the machine.

Ali joined Working Against Gravity as a client because of her interest in nutrition and learning more about what her body needed to thrive. This interest quickly turned into a passion, which brought her to where she is today! She is thankful for the opportunity to challenge herself and push her limits everyday and wants to use her role as a coach to give that gift to others.

Outside of the gym you can find her hiking with her pups, paddle boarding, writing, eating and spending LOTS of time with friends and family!

Brad Giglio

Brad began working out in high school where he found a passion for fitness and working with others. He realized that fitness and health were his true passions so he studied to become an Athletic Trainer. Given his desire to serve a greater purpose, he joined the military and advanced his knowledge in fitness and began to study nutrition independently. Brad trained as a semi professional MMA fighter, but found a true love for coaching. This lead him to becoming a personal trainer and nutrition counselor where he trained everyone from teens to college athletes, focusing on weight loss management, performance, and everything in between. He then got heavily into body building and even competed and used that platform to coach athletes in local and pro bodybuilding and figure competitions. Through this journey Brad found CrossFit and Olympic lifting and was drawn to and inspired by those in the community. Soon thereafter he joined WAG in looking for some extra accountability and to expand his knowledge on nutrition and macro counting and its ability to increase performance and body composition. Brad currently lives in Traverse City, Michigan and follows his passion of training and helping others meet their performance and nutritional goals

Her love for intense workouts and high volume training has taught her the importance of proper nutrition to fuel performance.

As a past client of Team WAG, she has first-hand experience in learning how to transition to using food for fuel and only occasionally indulging. She understands what it is like to want to look and feel your best, but still "have a life." Kate Hart

Kate was first introduced to weightlifting during a CrossFit boot camp in 2012. She quickly fell in love with lifting heavy, shifting her focus from CrossFit to Olympic lifting.

After cycling through different diets with mixed results, she became a client of Working Against Gravity. Although her initial goals were purely performance based, she saw that it was possible to gain strength and change body composition at the same time.

Intrigued by all of the changes the program yielded, she began her journey into prepping to compete in women's physique competitions. While making drastic changes to her body, she started researching the ins and outs of her body transformation through evidence-based nutrition.

This year, Kate competed in her first powerlifting meet, qualifying her to compete at RUM9 in 2016. Kate aims to use her ability of attaining a broad spectrum of goals to help clients meet theirs.

Katie is competitive and puts her entire heart and soul in everything she does. As a teenager, she was a dancer and tennis player. She began learning about the power of strength training in 2010 upon beginning to compete in physique competitions. She competed in eight such events (in the Bikini and Figure divisions), earning national qualifications and aiming to become an IFBB pro. She continued this path throughout law school at the University of Arizona, expecting to eventually be forced to abandon athletic pursuits to work full-time in the world of intellectual property law.

In 2015, however, Katie realized, that her passion was in health and wellness. She quit her legal job to become a personal trainer and nutrition coach.

A few months later, Katie gathered up the courage to try something she’d been intimidated by for years: CrossFit. She fell in love with lifting heavy and hitting PRs. She reached out to WAG in an effort to learn how to eat for athletic performance while reaching body composition goals – and her life was forever changed. She lives in Michigan and is currently preparing for her first weightlifting meet in fall 2017.

Josh Holton

Josh has been active his entire life, but it really wasn't until he started college and joined a maritime academy that he discovered the weight room. While creating music (he is a drum fanatic) had to take a backseat to his studies, solace was found in the local gym between classes with a few friends. This was the typical 5-day split most have experienced, and the results became evident as the weeks went on. So, he kept going! Fast forward nearly 10 years and Josh is more focused than ever in the daily practice of building strength. Not only does he take training his body seriously, he also puts an intense focus on the mental benefits of training. His enthusiasm is contagious and he loves sharing these meaningful insights with friends and clients alike.

The only piece missing from all this was nutrition! That, of course, changed when josh joined Working Against Gravity in December 2015. Josh has an insatiable thirst for knowledge and flexible dieting was no exception. What started as curiosity has blossomed into a full fledged obsession, and now, career.

Josh is also a coach at Fresh Coast Fitness in lovely Traverse City, MI where he, his wife Jessica, and their cat, Kona reside. He is a AAPF powerlifting competitor and enjoys showing people the joy of lifting a heavy bar. On top of that he is an avid reader, musician and enjoys shooting video and editing.

Jessica Holton

Jessica has always loved a hard-earned sweat. Growing up she participated in any sport she could, including basketball, volleyball, and track. After college, a friend convinced her to sign up for her first 10k. Soon 10k's turned into half marathons and then into triathlons. During the summer of 2012, she completed a three-day Ironman, swimming 2.4 miles the first day, biking 112 miles the next, and running 26.2 miles on the final day. Jessica started incorporating strength sessions to supplement her endurance training. While beneficial, this did not provide the same satisfaction as the pure sport training she was used to. In June of 2014, her husband Josh, suggested that she try CrossFit. After her first workout, she was hooked. Now, whether it’s CrossFit, Oly lifting, powerlifting, running, or yoga - Jessica starts her day moving.

Nutrition-wise Jessica always considered herself to be a “healthy eater” but never saw the favorable results she thought she should being as active as she was. She struggled to find a balance between eating for health, performance, aesthetics, and enjoyment. Enter Working Against Gravity. Working one-on-one with a coach, Jessica learned how good it felt to properly fuel her body. She started liking what she saw in the mirror and loved that she could enjoy her favorite foods without guilt. Jessica is eager to help others find their own balance, and to empower them to become the best versions of themselves.

Amy Locati

Amy’s active lifestyle comes from working on the family farm harvesting onions, moving sprinkler pipe and bucking hay bales, but when she wasn’t out in the dirt, she was also highly involved in gymnastics, dance and cheerleading. She was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 when her small town opened its first box. CrossFit taught her to love and respect her body and to be proud of her muscles. Picking up a heavy barbell, listening to loud music and working out alongside friends is the best part of her day.

She began refining her diet and studying nutrition mostly to improve her body composition and CrossFit performance, not to lose weight. WAG taught her the importance of counting macronutrients while remaining flexible with her food choices, but it also changed her mindset and helped her find a better balance within the rest of her life, which was equally significant. Now she is leaner, stronger, mentally tougher, and is able to enjoy pancakes and ice cream without the guilt! Her success with WAG drove her to want to share the gift of flexible dieting knowledge with others. To her, changing people’s lives in a sustainable way and helping them reach their goals is the most rewarding thing of all.

Amy is a CrossFit coach and an avid foodie. When she’s not in the gym you’ll likely find her in the kitchen experimenting with recipes to make them healthier. On her days off she enjoys shopping the farmer’s market, brunching with friends, heading to the family cabin at Wallowa Lake, or spending a low-key night at home with her boyfriend and two cats.

Alexa Mina

Alexa’s athletic drive can be seen in everything she does. Her fitness journey began at a young age through 8 years of competitive cheerleading. After tearing her ACL, she was introduced to CrossFit through rehabilitation for her knee injury, which also assisted in improving her endurance for cheerleading. She quickly found a passion for Olympic weightlifting through competing in CrossFit competitions, and is now a nationally competitive weightlifter in the 58kgs class lifting for Team Western New York Weightlifting.

Alexa previously had contacted Working Against Gravity to cut weight to qualify for nationals. Through her journey with WAG, she was able to see first hand the benefits of counting macronutrients. Her goals became less about just wanting to see changes in body composition, and more about fueling her body properly for training and strength purposes. She realized that appropriate macronutrients in her diet were an integral part of being an athlete and living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. She then made it her goal in life to educate people on this “flexible dieting” approach to nutrition and to help them find as much success in it as she did!

Alexa lives in Rochester, NY and coaches weightlifting at CrossFit Boomtown. When she is not in the gym herself or training others you can find her jamming out to country music, reading, or in her kitchen cooking! Alexa has always had a strong desire to help people reach their goals, change their lives, and to apply healthy habits to their personal lifestyle. She is constantly looking for ways to be a better version of herself and loves sharing her personal experiences and successes through coaching others!

Hillary has long been involved in competitive sports, but in early 2012 her athletic career was put on hold due to declining health. After being diagnosed with Celiac Disease in 2013, she found CrossFit and was able to begin the process of taking back her health.

From one extreme diet to the next, she struggled to find something that fueled her body and kept her healthy. It wasn't until last year when she fell in love with the barbell and flexible dieting that she finally found the solution. With the help of Team WAG, Hillary was able to drop into the 63kg weight class and become a nationally competitive athlete.

Once a Team WAG client, Hillary not only understands that food is fuel, but it is also what brings people together in all walks of life.

After playing college softball, Ashley was introduced to Crossfit as a new way of pushing herself while enjoying a competitive atmosphere. However, it was at a local weightlifting meet, where she was inspired by all the strong female lifters that she decided to start weightlifting.

Before WAG, she tried every diet out there and was caught in the avoid- binge cycle that resulted from restricted dieting. She came to the point where she was beyond tired and frustrated with the lack of results, despite all the hard work she was putting in at the gym. "I knew something was missing and that something had to change" she says, so she signed up with WAG with an open mind. With the help of WAG, Ashley was able to drop from 75+kg to 69kg while maintaining her strength in the gym and hitting PR’s. Her passion is helping people develop the skills and tools needed to achieve sustainable results that fit their lifestyles so that in all seasons of life they can be successful!

Now Ashley has just moved back to California and calls the High Desert of Yucca Valley home with her husband and she is loving it! Her current hobby is exploring and star gazing at the local national park with her two dogs! "Nothing beats Saturday breakfast with my man and stopping off at our local farmers market for goodies!" she told us. When she is not working out in her home gym, Ashley loves nerding out on podcasts related to flexible dieting.

Brittany has always been passionate about fitness and nutrition. As an undecided science major in college, Brittany took a nutrition course and knew dietetics was the right choice for her. She went on to obtain a Bachelors of Science in Dietetics, followed by a Masters of Science in Dietetics and Human Nutrition.

In 2007, a friend introduced Brittany to Crossfit and Powerlifting; she obtained her Level 1 certification in 2008 and has never looked back. Life started to move quickly when Brittany and her husband welcomed their first child in 2011. The next five years were filled with 2 more babies and 4 international moves (Belgium, Bosnia, USA, and Germany). Throughout, Brittany practiced as a Registered Dietitian specializing in weight management. She joined WAG 2 months after the birth of her third daughter.

“I had lost myself, spending my days taking care of other people and I completely forgot to take care of me.” With the help of her coach Hillary, Brittany was able to lose 35 pounds while continuing to gain strength.

Today Brittany lives in Stuttgart, Germany with her husband Chris, three daughters, and their Weimaraner, Kaiser.

Vanessa Bailey
Substitute Coach

Growing up Vanessa always led an active lifestyle, playing every sport her schedule would possibly allow. Half way through her college career she realized she wanted to continue studying her love of exercise and nutrition by declaring Exercise Physiology as her major. After graduating, Vanessa held the title of Wellness Director at a local athletic club where she counseled clients in macro counting weight loss programs. During her time as a Wellness Director, she also held certifications as a personal trainer, group exercise instructor, and spinning instructor. Two years into her career, her husband took a job in a small town and Vanessa’s original career path fell to the wayside. For ten years, she tried every diet on the market while her weight continued to creep higher and higher. From Paleo, Whole30, Weight Watchers, and Zone to restrictive eating, nothing seemed to click with the goals and healthy lifestyle she desired to achieve. Vanessa finally made the decision to join WAG after being on the waitlist. At first, she had to overcome the obstacle of realizing it was okay to have a coach even though she “understood” nutrition…and it was the best decision she could have ever made. Over the course of 11 months, Vanessa lost over 65lbs, ran a half-marathon, and won a local CrossFit competition.

While WAG helped Vanessa achieve goals beyond her expectations, it also helped her excel in CrossFit and on the tennis court. Throughout her journey with WAG, Vanessa realized that her passion is to help and counsel others in achieving an optimal, healthy lifestyle through nutrition and exercise—her original career path she declared in college!

Vanessa lives in Goldsboro, North Carolina with her husband, little boy, and three dogs. In her spare time, you can find her fishing, at the beach or competing in local CrossFit competitions and tennis tournaments.

Alex was an avid runner for the majority of her college career. After being introduced to CrossFit through a college course, she never looked back. CrossFit became so much more than a workout for her. It fueled her passion to use both health and fitness to help others. After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Alex pursued her Master’s degree in Exercise Science. She hopes to utilizes her education to help others realize how important nutrition and exercise are for a healthy, long life.

Before being introduced to WAG, Alex struggled with disordered eating for many years. She has been both thirty pounds underweight and overweight. CrossFit helped her finally overcome the disordered eating. She focused on eating mainly whole foods in order to build muscle and become competitive within the sport. In 2015, Alex wanted to focus on increasing her performance by getting rid of some excess body weight. She decided to try out WAG to see how nutrition coaching could help reach her goals. WAG would provide the accountability and non-biased opinion that she was missing. Alex learned how to utilize nutrition to fuel her performance and increase recovery. Since joining WAG, Alex has had multiple podium finishes in various competitions.

Substitute Coach

Meg was first introduced to CrossFit in 2010. Over the last 7 years she has used her passion for fitness as a coach, competitor, and affiliate owner, focusing on inspiring others to live healthier, fitter lives. She understands the importance of fueling the body properly, from beginner to advanced athlete. Meg had her first child in 2014 and her second in 2016. Her postpartum journey with WAG forever changed her view on proper nutrition and what the female body is truly capable of. Creating balance and taking a more “flexible” approach with food has had a profound impact on her daily life. Now, she feels better, and is fitter and stronger than ever! She is passionate about giving back, being a positive influence in her community, as well as a strong role model for her daughters.

Meg currently lives in South Florida with her family. When she isn’t training or coaching others, you can find her at the beach, in the kitchen creating new recipes, and spending time with her husband, two girls, and chocolate lab Bruin.

Laura Lee Gilliland
Substitute Coach

Laura Lee grew up as a dual sport athlete in Alabama, playing basketball and soccer at a competitive level through high school. During college, she took a break from sports, but when she began law school at Ole Miss in 2008, she needed an outlet and picked up lifting and distance running. Once her passion for lifting was reignited, she discovered CrossFit in 2012 and didn't spend much time in a law office before deciding to pursue fitness as a full time career. Part of her "why" is to use her gift of being able to help others, and she feels she best serves others helping and supporting them with their nutrition!

In early 2013, she moved to Nashville, TN to work in the fitness industry, and she has coached athletes in fitness and nutrition ever since. In 2015, she began working with a nutritionist who specialized in flexible dieting, and shortly after this Laura Lee discovered and joined Working Against Gravity where she initially cut 14 lbs. then worked at a caloric surplus for nearly 9 months to add muscle and become more competitive. Through this process she added about 8 lbs of lean muscle and found herself in the best shape of her career at the age of 31. WAG has been more than a physical transformation for Laura Lee. By using all of the tools and support WAG provides, she has learned to be more balanced in every aspect of her life. WAG has been life changing for Laura Lee and she now enjoys helping others change their own lives as well.

While she enjoys all food, breakfast is her favorite meal. Give this girl a stack of pancakes or French toast, and her day is made! When she's not working hard in the gym, preparing for a competition, or hard at work helping others, you can find her exploring the great outdoors -- her favorite place to be -- looking for the next great adventure and using her fitness to have fun and enjoy life.

Jayne Jeffreys
Substitute Coach

Jayne has always been surrounded by the world of Fitness and Nutrition her whole life. She was a gymnast from the age of 6 and continued on through her 4 years at Rutgers University in New Jersey. While at college, she struggled with weight gain and could never find what she needed to get the weight off and keep it off. This created a series of yo-yo dieting and eventually more weight gain in the end. After finishing her gymnastics career, she found crossfit and lost most of the college weight with a lot of research and trial and error, then in 2015, she stumbled upon WAG. This is when she found the key to success that she was looking for her whole athletic career. It took the stress out of guessing what her body needed daily and changed her outlook on food in general.

She began this journey with WAG to learn how to fuel her performance for crossfit, but it was about the same time she made the switch from a Crossfit athlete to strictly Olympic Weightlifting. Jayne accomplished her goal of qualifying for USAW Nationals in 2017 and will continue on to the American Open in December of 2017. Her future goals in weightlifting are to continue qualifying for Nationals each year and work her way up the rankings in the 69kg weight class.

Jayne's passion is to introduce this world of macros to everyone struggling with weight loss, gain, or performance in and out of the gym and help guide them through this process. Helping them to understand that this is a lifestyle, and something you are able to maintain long term. She doesn't want anyone to feel as though they cannot live a normal life while "dieting".

Nicole Kupfer
Substitute Coach

Growing up with a dad who competed in Bodybuilding, fitness and nutrition have been in integral part of Nicole’s life since the day she was born. Nicole spent the majority of her childhood in dance classes including ballet, jazz, tap, modern and hip-hop and also briefly competed in Olympic Weightlifting in high school.

Fast forward to her senior year of college, Nicole started training for Figure Competitions and competed at the local and national level for the next couple of years. She loved competing, but the strict meal plans and two-a-day workouts were no longer enjoyable. Nicole decided to try her first CrossFit class and was hooked.

Although CrossFit helped Nicole learn to appreciate her body for what it could do and not just how it looked, she still felt lost about how to best fuel herself for training and also feel comfortable in her own skin. During her last couple months of graduate school, Nicole started her journey with WAG and has not looked back since! With the help of the WAG coaches and community, Nicole has learned how to eat for performance, love her body and how to stay on track through special occasions, vacations and injuries.

Nicole is a high school counselor in the Pacific Northwest and is often easily talked into pull-up competitions by the students she works with. She loves hiking, reading and hanging out with her fiancé and Black Labrador, Adrian. She believes in helping others learn to be the best version of themselves and is passionate about living and modeling a lifestyle where physical and mental health are a priority.

Tony Micheles
Substitute Coach

In 2007, Tony had grown tired of the repetitive military fitness regime he had been subjected to since age 18 as a Navy Diver. His superior officer recommended that he try CrossFit and as fate would have it, he found CrossFit Invictus where he was introduced to constantly varied functional movement by the one-and-only CJ Martin. Taking to the sport quickly, Tony began to learn everything he could about strength, fitness, and nutrition to support his goal of becoming a competitive athlete and coach. Since then, Tony has put his knowledge to work as a coach and affiliate owner, sharing his passion with people from all walks of life to support their wellness and fitness goals.

Tony is a nationally ranked Masters Olympic lifter and avid CrossFit enthusiast who understands the struggle of eating to maximize athletic performance while balancing work, social/family time, and full-time studies. When he isn’t at the gym, manning the Traeger, or doing homework, Tony enjoys spending time with his wife and their three dogs at their home in Southwest Florida.

As a teenager in the late 80’s and early 90’s, K.O. began her love of all things fitness when she started VHS recording Denise Austin and Tamilee Webb. That’s right. She wanted to tone and tighten and get Buns and Abs of Steel. As time went on, and after switching majors a few times at Central Michigan University, K.O. decided on majoring in Health and Fitness Promotion in Rehabilitative and Corporate Settings, with a minor in Nutrition.

After working as a Fitness Specialist for Ford and Chrysler plants in Detroit, K.O. decided to switch gears and pursue a career in massage therapy.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist, K.O. has been helping her clients recover and heal from injuries, aches, and pains for over 15 years. When she had finally discovered WAG, K.O. knew that the next chapter of her life had begun. Over the course of the last two years as a WAG client, K.O. has lost weight, while gaining both strength and muscle. More importantly, she has gained belief in herself and in her abilities as an athlete - with newfound confidence to compete in various crossfit competitions, as well as two half marathons this past spring, breaking personal records as she ran her fastest times yet. She has also gained a more intimate knowledge of nutrition and the various effects it has upon the human body, inside and out, than she ever thought possible.

K.O. lives in Lansing, MI with her husband - a Marine freshly home from Wounded Warrior - whom she is currently helping recover from CRPS; as well as her son and their dog, Sally. When she’s not lifting all the weights or assisting her husband in his recovery, your can find K.O. either reading or crocheting something amazing.

Julie Rappaport
Substitute Coach

Julie, (aka jrapp when competing), grew up in Northern California and was always very athletic. Her favorite sport growing up was soccer and she played at a Division 1 school in college and semi-professionally after graduating.

In 2008, she was introduced to Crossfit and after her first workout, she was hooked. She loved the challenge, intensity and camaraderie of the sport, things she previously had only found in soccer. After a couple years, she hung up her cleats and fully embraced her new-found passion of Crossfit.

Julie had her first child in 2012 and her second in 2015. She contacted WAG 6 weeks after the birth of her second child to help her become a 53kg lifter for the US Masters National Weightlifting meet. A short 4-months later, she not only lifted as a 53kg, she placed 1st in her age and weight class and set a new American record for the Clean & Jerk! Two weeks after the meet, she went on to get ranked 43rd in the world in her age group in Crossfit. And this year, she is training hard to make the Crossfit Games!

Julie’s biggest challenge while doing WAG has been with her children: “I just love ‘em so darn much that I just wanna eat them…but that would really throw off my macros, so I just give them a hug instead!” :)

Julie’s passion is to help people become the best version of themselves that they can be and to inspire others to do things they never thought possible.

Becky Shattuck
Substitute Coach

Becky did not grow up playing sports like most of her peers did. But after realizing that something needed to change during her sophomore year of college, she dove head first into learning more about fitness and nutrition. Since then, she hasn’t looked back and continues to strive to learn more. Becky discovered CrossFit in 2012 and was addicted from the first day. CrossFit has given her not just an intense level of fitness, but also self-confidence, the ability to love her body and what it is capable of and just lots of fun!

Fast forward to 2015, Becky discovered WAG while on Facebook one evening and decided to give it a try. Finally she had found the solution to the “I’ll start again Monday” syndrome and the constant yo-yo dieting that yielded the same results…none! WAG has taught Becky to fuel her body the right way and through that fuel combined with finally finding self-love, every aspect of her life is better.

Becky recently left her full-time nursing job to pursue her passion in the fitness and nutrition industry and couldn’t be happier about it! Becky’s goal is to reach as many people as possible and show them just how great they can feel with some lifestyle changes, dedication, and a little compassion!

Michael Vanchieri
Substitute Coach

After finishing up a successful collegiate baseball career, Michael used CrossFIt to stay in shape and provide a competitive release. Shortly after beginning CrossFit, he knew that he wanted to enable people to enhance their lives through health, fitness, and nutrition. He coached CrossFit classes while attending chiropractic school. There he learned that optimal health required both regular tune-ups, and proper fuel! After shedding some of that "weightlifter" fluff as a WAG client, Michael knew he absolutely needed to be apart of the WAG team that enabled him to earn success.

When not treating patients or at the gym, Michael enjoys surfing (or attempting to), bike riding, and relaxing outdoors in Long Beach, NY.

Megan Ward
Substitute Coach

Megan woke up one day, at the age of 25, weighing the most she’d ever weighed, and decided to make a change. She had never been active in her life, subsisting almost entirely on ramen and couscous. Her first discovery was CrossFit and through increasing her activity and following some better eating habits, she lost about 30 pounds.

After some time with no progress, Megan began to work with Precision Nutrition, learning some fundamental habits to support altering her diet. After hearing about WAG for over a year, she decided to take the plunge. She is now down 95 pounds total.

Although Megan enjoyed CrossFit, her real love is weightlifting and she has been a dedicated Olympic weightlifter for 2 years. During this time she has attained her USA Weightlifting Level 1 certification and opened the Traverse City Barbell Club in Traverse City, MI.

Learning how to use fuel as food, how to separate food choices from moral judgements, and how to moderate intake has literally changed Megan’s life. Looking back on her journey, she is so thankful for all the people that supported and guided her as she strove to become healthier and stronger.

Megan loves getting to know a wide range of people. Her ability to communicate broadly combined with her passion for knowledge and learning helps her be a strong, effective coach. She loves meeting people where they are in their journeys and helping them achieve their goals, no matter what they may be.
