Wendy's surge pricing got you second-guessing your lunch choice? When you've just got to have a Baconator but your wallet (and waistline) can't afford it, we've got your back. Introducing the WAGonator!
All the flavor, 1/3 the cost, and fewer calories. The original Baconator boasts 66g of fat and a whopping 960 calories. Most of us can’t afford to fit that into our macros and still have food left for the rest of the day. Our version has half the fat and 732 calories.
If it were me, I would add pickles to this, but I tried to keep it as close to the original as possible.
For a smaller version, use a single patty, one slice of cheese and one slice of bacon and your macros will be 32P 40C 23F.
Instructions
- Cook your bacon cooking in a frying pan, pat dry with paper towels and cut in half. Set aside.
- Make up 2- 4oz hamburger patties from a pound of ground beef (feel free to make up the whole pound for someone else or for later). I formed mine into square patties to match the Wendy’s style.
- Lightly salt the patties on both sides.
- Cook patties on medium heat in a preheated nonstick or oiled cast iron pan for 5 minutes per side for medium rare, longer for medium or well done.
- Add a slice of cheese to the top of each patty once the meat is done cooking, and remove from heat.
- Toast your bun in a toaster oven.
- Add mayo and ketchup to the top bun.
- Build your burger: Bottom bun, one patty, one slice of bacon (cut into halves), another patty, another slice of bacon, and the top bun.
- Smash down and eat!
