My story is similar to others, I used to be a long distance runner and lived for half marathons, and then I found Crossfit and started to balance the two. I gained a lot of muscle and drank the Crossfit kool-aid, and after a bad running injury I switched my workouts to mostly Crossfit. I had been gluten free for a few years but started eating the mostly Paleo, high-fat low-carb style of eating, and gradually over time with building muscle from Crossfit and eating a high fat diet, my body began to feel big and bulky. My clothes didn’t fit any more, but I did not think too much of it because I knew I was eating Paleo and Crossfitting 6 times a week, so I had to be healthy, but I wasn’t happy. I heard about WAG through the Girls Gone WOD podcast and was instantly curious. I had never tried macro counting before and wanted to give it a try. The biggest change was the reduction in my fat intake. No more plantain chips, avocados, nut butter (for awhile I had to ban them, now I have found a way to balance them in to my day) breakfasts full of bacon and eggs, and more. My body loved the change in the foods I was eating and on the weeks I would stick with my macros, it responded very well. I thought the program was impossible at first but I have learned how to balance my plate and what it should look like, how to plan ahead, how to not overeat (which I think was also a big problem for me) and how to measure and appreciate the food on my plate and know that I am nourished and my body does not need any more, no matter what my head is telling me. It really is a huge mental game! I love this program for teaching me that food is fuel and nourishes your body and your performance, and that every single morsel you put in your mouth is for a reason and is going to do something good for your body. I also love it for teaching me portion control and how to live your life and adapt this way of eating to your lifestyle. Also for realizing that while fats are good and healthy, there is a limit! Hillary has been a great coach and mentor throughout the whole process, and very patient with me through all my mishaps. Thank you to team WAG and Coach Hillary! I would recommend this program to everyone, and I do. :)
